Sungyong “David” In is an attorney at law practicing in Washington, DC. Sungyong is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, and New York State. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. He also served as a Global Mentor of Korea Innovation Center in Washington DC, and a Lead of Knowledge Services Section, Global Technology Cooperation Group of Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology. At Ichthus, Sungyong serves as a team leader.

Sungyong’s practice is focused on counseling and helping clients to obtain strong, strategic protection of intellectual property (IP) rights including patents in the United States as well as other countries. Sungyong advises clients regarding various aspects of protecting their IP rights, including preparation, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, preparation of legal opinions (e.g., patentability, non-infringement, invalidity, freedom-to-operate opinions) as well as due diligence studies, in electrical/electronics, digital communications, semiconductors, Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs), optical devices, computing devices, software, medical devices and biotechnology. Sungyong has substantial experience in post-grant proceedings including preparation of reexamination requests and defense of issued patents undergoing ex parte and inter partes reexamination (e.g., actively participated in over 13 inter partes and ex parte reexamination proceedings representing third parties as well as patent owners). Sungyong has substantial experience in negotiating various agreements including technology licensing, joint development, and patent licensing agreements.

Also, with privacy and cyber security credentials, Sungyong consults and help out clients with compliance with privacy laws including General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and others. Sungyong holds privacy credentials such as Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) as well as cyber security credentials.
